I love my twin.  If you watch the used stuff you do see some decent deals happen on Apollos for the older silverface ones (nothing wrong with them at all).  Not in the cards for me though!  I'll stick with my twin and Tascam console.

want that unison though! Must be a UAD-2. But used is fine. For me, it's ALL about the two great pre's and nothing more really.

either that, or a couple great ones in through ADAT. But I think I'd like the UAD.

The silverfaces do Unison too, they are all UAD-2.  The only thing with the older ones is that they are Firewire and there's an extra add-on card for them to do Thunderbolt (which you want).  With a silverface Apollo you would get 4 more Unison enabled preamps and 8 more line in/outs (as well as two more ADAT ins/outs).

silver faces are UAD-2? Hmmm. I didn't think they were. have to check.

Yep and they are good bang for the buck when you can find them.  A little while back tons of people were dumping them on the UAD forum (just after the blackface stuff all came out).  There's a good used seller on that forum too, his site is http://www.jrrshop.com

But he doesn't have any in stock currently (only the TB card for them).  Good to watch his site when you're getting closer or even ask him to ping you when he gets a line on one (he's not hard to find on the forums).

I have to think on it, I don't know that I'd need 4 more good ones. I have the behringer if I need for hh, bottom snare, ride etc, sounds fine. 2 more might be the sweet spot. The new twin can come with a quad so extra processing power! But I haven't priced one of those new ones with a quad yet.

Damn. I was afraid they'd be expensive. Of course our crappy dollar may not help. A silverface still often snags well over 2k.

The previous twins with a duo may be the cheapest option.

The twin with a duo will do what you need it to do, you will have enough DSP on it to do a pair of whatever you want at input time, and it will just add to the DSP pool for mix time.  Lots of trade-ins on those right now, see one on jrr shop for $719 USD.

720 US that's like a grand plus tax/duty and shipping. Might as well go for the updated version in Canada for 1200!

That's a bit surprising, are you using many of the non UAD plugins?  How much space do you have left on your drive/sdd?

I have the 2015 MBP of the same sort of spec and have never hit that (and I've mixed some fairly large projects on mine to date!)
