"Do you have any concept of what an internal CD-R would do to battery life? Or the data rate of a low-rpm laptop drive? Or any of the other reasons why putting CD-R in a _laptop_ is a BAD IDEA?"

I would not trade my CDRW in my 15" tiBook for anything

Ive been mobile since apple got over the "portable" and released a powerbook.... and I always wanted a CDRW to backup with... a machine needs at least ONE writable removable drive or it is just a pain to backup

I use a Lucent Wavelan PCMCIA card btw, even though my model of tiBook does have an internal airport card... Apple really screwed the range of the internal airport on tiBooks. When Im in range I use the internal when Im not I use the PCMCIA slot.
