Yes, I have worked with firewire to scis adapters and with the exception of some scanners it is very solid. I would like to know what scsi device you are still using that would not work (I would be willing to bet there are firewire or USB replacements.) As for the USB NIC, I'm totally serious! Are you trying to say you need 100MB on two different networks??? Are you saying that binding two IP addresses to a single NIC within your professional environment is not acceptible (or did you just not know you could do that?)
Now let me see if I can get your point! >>>expandability. Without adding external devices (defeating the purpose of a laptop)<<< OK, so without external devices you don't need SCSI!! Without external devices what are you going to do with zoomed video! and on a laptop how often do you "NEED" more flexability than a single NIC provides.
Firewire gives you the "expandability" you need! Maybe you really wanted to say "compatibility" which is different. Some users will have to work to get "compatibility" with old products but SCSI has been dead on the Mac for a couple of years! It is time to upgrade or deal with the workarounds available.
Remember this thread is about PCMCIA slots! I'm not defending the loss of a drive bay, because that effects many more users and is a totally different type of compromise. So I ask you? Do your "Needs" for PCMCIA slots represent the 99% of users or the 1% of users? And which should Apple produce laptops for?
