Hmm, let's see here... a little research.... click, click... ok, from the Ti G4 data sheet:
Size and weight • Height: 1.0 inches (2.6 cm) • Width: 13.4 inches (34.1 cm) • Depth: 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) • Weight: 5.3 pounds (2.4 kg) with battery installed
This means while it is a tad wider (1/2") than the Pismo, it is slightly over 1" less deep, and on an aircraft, that's the dimension that really counts, the depth of that damn tray table when it's not in it's upright and locked position. The distance between the back of the chair in front of you and the edge of the tray table is the key area.
Therefore, according to the actual numbers, the Ti G4 P-Book ought to be EASIER to use on a plane than most contemporary Apple notebooks and appears to have the smallest footprint depth-wise since the 1400 and 2400 models.
My Pismo is extremely difficult to use on a plane because of it's depth and that's why I placed my order for a Ti G4. That extra 1"+ will be a big help while typing, ciphering and later, goofing off on the Ti G4.
While the wide format screen adds width, it's minimal compared to the hulk and bulk of the Wallstreet, Lombard and Pismo units, while the reduction in depth is significant (in the area of 10-11%).
This is the finest notebook Apple has ever offered; I've owned 14 previous Macintosh PowerBooks and it's about time we got something under 7-8 pounds. Expansion bays are simply not needed in a lightweight 'book and I am venturing a guess that 90% of PowerBook owners are somewhat like myself and synch their PowerBooks with their G4 towers or other desktops via ethernet after a long road trip.
Mr Guertin: sorry, dude, you missed this one. Keep trying, though!
