After the Dust Settles - The PB G4's Shortcomings

Re: CD-R Heat Problems                   3:15 PM EST Tue Jan 23, 2001

Not sure where this came from. For as often as the CD-R is actually spun up (only when you want to burn one or are copying a CD to disk) even if it is hotter than a toaster, it wouldn't matter much.

As for laptop CD-Rs, I keep my VST CD-R/W drive in my Powerbook G3/firewire constantly, and it has to be the most useful thing I ever bought, while the Apple supplied DVD drive sits at home in its case keeping the dust off the top of my charcoal G4.

If they couldn't get one of the new CD-R/DVD drives for the new powerbook, they should have put in a CD-R/W.

The only reason powerbooks need DVD drives is because PowerMacs don't have S-video out... what's up with that?
